Green Features

What About Green Building?

We construct our homes to meet or exceed the IRBC (International Residential Building Code), incorporate the latest GREEN technology and strive to balance features vs. benefits, in order to offer the best possible value in your new home.

Your home will be constructed utilizing lumber from renewable sources. Our local supplier secures their lumber only from “tree farms”. We install High-Efficiency furnaces and water heaters. When requested as an upgrade, we will utilize low VOC paints and formaldehyde free carpeting and padding. Low flow toilets and aerated faucets to reduce water consumption. A Grey Water waste-water system in addition the black water sewer system allows the homeowner to reuse a large portion of their water for exterior vegetation. A superior insulation package to save natural resources: Ceiling R-38, Walls R-23, Floors R-30. Low-E windows, sliding doors, and French doors to complement our insulation package. Fiberglass front and back doors provide excellent insulation factors. All penetrations through drywall and framing are caulked or insulated, including windows, doors, pipes, outlets, switches, vents, and lighting, to save our natural resources. All ducting is insulated and seams are taped for maximum heating and cooling efficiency.

We can help you design your home to accommodate other GREEN features like solar heating, solar gain and super insulation packages and can work with you to meet green building guidelines set forth by Build Green New Mexico and Home Builder’s Association of NM. In addition to the above green features our Off-Site method of construction also allows us to impact the environment less than the traditional On-Site method. The Off-Site construction method allows the homes to be constructed at one common facility which is located in Moriarty NM. By constructing homes in Moriarty, all of the subcontractors and suppliers are driving to one common destination, where they can perform multiple installations at once, thereby saving tens of thousands of gallons of fuel and greatly reducing emissions. No other builder for rural New Mexico can make this claim. With the construction being done on our site, we can control recycling of excess materials and disposal of the unusable or damaged materials. On-site builders are not nearly as efficient in utilizing excess building materials where meaningful recycling is not as cost-effective.
